London Fashion Week: Colour trends to use at your own wedding

Posted on

Today sees the close of London Fashion Week, and London it has been special! A huge array of trends were shown including bold floral prints (gorgeous on a ballgown) and spots everywhere! We love both of these in equal measure and would love to see how they could be brought to life with stunning bridesmaid fabrics. However the trends that really piqued our interest, as always, were the colour trends! The catwalk was awash with clean ivory, stark bright white and glorious champagne, and we love all three. We have seen how our brides and increasing considering a mix and...

Attending a wedding when you are pregnant is stressful.   Everything in your wardrobe resembles a sack, the menu becomes a minefield and heaving your 8 month bump around the dancefloor is a chore.    This is before you factor in being the only sober person at the wedding apart from the page boy and flowergirl!   If you are a bridesmaid this stress is multiplied by 100 as you need to predict what size your bump will be in a few months time when ordering your dress, the bride wants you to match the other bridesmaid plus you don’t want to be an...

Unusual wedding venues is a craze we love, from getting married in a haunted castle, to up a mountain or even in Space (if you are one of the two mad couples that have put their names down to get married on Virgin Gelatic!)    Being able to get married absolutely anywhere is one of the biggest changes to have revolutionised the Wedding industry over the last 30 years.    It makes choosing a venue very exciting and can be extremely personal to you as a couple.   It can also be a great start to choosing a theme – from enchanted forest,...

Picking a wedding theme

Choosing a wedding theme can be incredibly easy, or actually quite frustrating. For some it’s simple, you choose a theme that relates to you and your partner such as a shared love of sport, or a specific country and there you have it. Someone we know chose a theme based around sailing as her and her husband had met whilst on a sailing camping holiday when they were only 16 which is lovely! She was able to choose features that represented that entire theme with a cake in the shape of their sailing boat and even flowergirl dresses that looked...

Destination Wedding Styling

Sun, sea, sand and 12 metres of white silk is not an ideal combination but every year over $16 billion is spent on destination weddings.   Not all will be at a beach location but the popularity of getting married in the sun is growing and this provides a clothing dilemma.   I got married in August in Cyprus and so know the predicament of dressing for 30 degree temperatures!    I started off all sensible saying I would have a slim-fitted lightweight dress but then got tempted by a huge princess gown and short bridesmaid dresses turned into long champagne numbers that...

The start of the rainbow!

Tradition has always dictated that your bridesmaid wear the same colour and the same style, but times are changing. Brides are embracing the chance to let their bridesmaid personalities shine through a little more, for example one may absolutely love red, whilst another hates it. Well 2015 is the year of trying something a little different and giving yours bridesmaids a little more choice! We are increasingly seeing our wonderful brides requesting a mixture of colours and styles for their maids, for one bride having a purple-hued wedding with a range from Aubergine through to the palest lilac, whilst another...

Creating a bespoke colour, just for your wedding...

Choosing a colour for your wedding can be a massive headache, sometimes it can feel like you have a very definite idea of what you want and have to change it all at the last minute because you just can’t find what you want. That was the way with one of our weddings whereby Tash had her heart set on Turquoise as a colour but could not find the perfect dresses anywhere, she ended up going for black which although looked really classy and lovely it did send some of the older members of her family into a spin who...

Leading Men and a Matchimony Baby!

Excitement reigned in our Matchimony office last week with the launch of a new line of bow ties and cummerbunds to match our beautiful bridesmaid and prom dresses. The trend of bow ties for weddings is one we have seen rocked at a number of celebrity weddings during 2014 and is set to be a big hit for the UK wedding scene this year, whilst a cummerbund does a great job of adding a pop of colour to a plain black suit for weddings or proms.        Our gorgeous bow ties and cummerbunds are all made using the exact same silk as used for our bridesmaid dresses, men’s waistcoats and...

Fashion Impacts

Reflection on a chaotic February and does the madness of International Fashion Weeks, The Oscars and The Brits have any real effect on Wedding trends? After all the hype settled we were left pondering in the Matchimony office what we really learnt from this year’s fashion weeks and award ceremonies – apart from the obvious, don’t do your cape up too tight! The Oscars and Brits both highlighted the continuing trend towards pale and nude tones. Nicknamed “50 shades of Pale” we loved the sweet shades that Jennifer Anniston, Gwyneth Paltrow and Zoe Saldana all rocked at the Oscars, showing...
